Research Focus: Nutritional Biochemistry
Diana N. Obanda is an assistant professor of nutrition and food science at the University of Maryland College of Agriculture and Natural Resources. Her research focuses on the nutritional biochemistry of nutrients at the cellular and molecular level, particularly the physiological mechanisms underlying various nutrition-related processes. Obanda investigates the impact of food and medicinal plant compounds on obesity mechanisms, gut microbiota composition, and gut immune function. Her work also aims to uncover the mechanisms responsible for altered gene expression in skeletal muscle, adipose tissue, and intestinal tissue, and their role in obesity and insulin resistance.
